On X, the Congressman’s office stated, “Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.”
South Carolina’s Attorney General, Alan Wilson (R), said in a statement to WSPA that the congressman “experienced stroke-like symptoms” but was in stable condition, according to The Hill.
“I just spoke to my mom, who is currently at the hospital with my father. Doctors have confirmed that he has experienced stroke-like symptoms,” Wilson said. “I was able to speak with him moments ago, and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals.”
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, who was present at the event, described Wilson’s on-the-spot treatment as “nothing short of a miracle.” She said, “It reminds me that we all have to learn how to do CPR. We in Ukraine, unfortunately, know how to do it because we have to perform it daily, but even in other countries, we need to be more resilient.”
“We’ll keep praying that our friend will be fine and wish him a speedy recovery,” she added.
