The Foo Fighters confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that they had not approved the use of the song, sharing a screenshot of their denial.
The song was played as Robert F Kennedy Jr took the stage, shortly after he announced he was suspending his presidential campaign to support the Republican nominee.
Trump’s response
In response to the controversy, a Trump campaign spokesperson told media that they had a license to play the song.
Previous objections
Earlier this month, Celine Dion’s team publicly stated that they did not approve of Trump’s use of her iconic song “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally in Montana. In August, the family of Isaac Hayes also threatened legal action against Trump for using Hayes’ song “Hold On, I’m Comin’ ” at rallies, citing Trump’s lack of integrity and his history of offensive behavior. Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl had also criticised Trump in a 2018 interview with GQ, calling him “a massive jerk.”
