One Delta employee and a contract worker were killed Tuesday morning when a tyre of a plane exploded when it was being removed from a Delta plane at the Atlanta International airport. Delta expresses its condolences in a statement. “The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3).We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” the airline wrote.
“The Delta family is grateful for the quick action of first responders and medical teams on site. We are now working with local authorities and conducting a full investigation to determine what happened.”
The plane travelled from Las Vegas to Atlanta on Sunday. The reason for the tyre explosion was not immediately clear.
In January this year, a Delta Boeing lost its nose wheel as the plane was waiting in the queue for take off. None of the 184 passengers were hurt in the incident.
