According to a statement from the airport, the disruptions began early Saturday morning and were traced to a suspected cyberattack affecting the Port of Seattle’s systems.”Earlier this morning, the Port of Seattle experienced certain system outages indicating a possible cyberattack,” airport authorities reported. “The Port isolated critical systems and is in the process of working to restore full service.”
As of 8 pm ET, the impact was severe, with 247 flights delayed and six canceled, according to FlightAware. The airport has not yet provided an estimated time for when it will return to full operational capacity. In the meantime, officials are coordinating with authorities and partners to assist travelers affected by the outage.
Travelers are advised to check with airline partners for the latest travel information and to allow extra time when arriving at the airport. “To help get through the airport easier, get your mobile boarding pass for your flight and any checked baggage through the airline apps before you get to SEA,” the airport advised.
The Federal Aviation Administration declined to comment on the delays and referred inquiries to SEA authorities. The airport is urging passengers to stay informed through their airlines for the most current flight information and to expect continued disruptions due to the ongoing system issues.
