Former President Donald Trump criticised Vice President Harris‘s newly announced economic plan, labelling it as “full communist” during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Trump attacked Harris’s federal price control proposal on food and groceries, comparing it to failed economic policies from Venezuela and the Soviet Union, which he claimed would lead to rationing, hunger, and skyrocketing prices.
Speaking to supporters at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania, Trump said, “In her speech yesterday, Kamala went full communist. You heard that? She went full communist.”
He added, “Comrade Kamala announced that she wants to institute socialist price controls. You saw that? Never worked before. This is the Maduro plan in Venezuela, the Maduro plan of the old Soviet Union. They tried it there. And how did the Soviet Union turn out?”
Trump argued that Harris’s plan for federal price controls, aimed at combatting “price gouging,” “excessive prices,” and “excessive corporate profits,” would be harmful. “It will cause rationing, hunger and skyrocketing prices,” Trump said. He likened it to the Inflation Reduction Act by the Biden-Harris administration, labelling it “one of the great scams of all time.”
He further criticised the Inflation Reduction Act’s impact on inflation, saying, “Inflation has been so bad, it’s gone up much more than 50%. They say 30%, 40% — many more people are being devastated.”
Harris, in a speech on Wednesday, unveiled a federal price-fixing plan for food and groceries. She positioned her economic road map, dubbed “Kamalanomics” by social media, as an “opportunity economy” plan. The plan also includes expanded down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers and a $6,000 child tax credit for first-time parents.
Trump claimed that such economic policies have historically failed, stating, “The things that she said yesterday don’t work. They have never worked. They’ve been used by many countries, and in every single event, it ruined those countries.”
He asserted that Harris’s promises are unrealistic and will face significant hurdles. “It’s a communist system. … She’s promising to hand out things she can’t deliver. She’ll never get them approved,” Trump said. “Just like when she and Crooked Joe tried to give away student debt. How did that work out? Not too good.”
Trump also aimed his remarks at young voters who might favour such policies, warning against a “communist takeover.” “The students are saying, ‘I love him because of student debt,’ but he got rejected,” Trump said. “Her plan is very dangerous because it may sound good politically, and that’s the problem. … This is Marxist, this is fascist.”
