Ceasefire talks begin in Qatar
Discussions aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza are taking place in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday afternoon, according to Reuters. The closed-door meeting was attended by Israel’s intelligence chief, along with representatives from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar’s prime minister.
The primary objectives of the talks were to put an end to the 10-month-long conflict in the Palestinian enclave and secure the release of 115 Israeli and foreign captives. The meeting was organized amidst rising tensions between Iran and Israel, following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, which had raised concerns about potential retaliation from Iran against Israel.
