The Eiffel Tower was evacuated after a shirtless man was seen climbing up the tower ahead of Paris Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
The man was seen positioned just above the Olympic rings on the second section of the monument, situated above the first viewing deck.
Over 30,000 police officers have been deployed throughout French capital and its surrounding areas to oversee the final Olympic events and the closing ceremony.
Moreover, approximately 3,000 police officers will be deployed around the Stade de France, said France’s interior minister Gérald Darmanin. Additionally, 20,000 police and security personnel will be active throughout Paris and the Saint-Denis area late into Sunday night to ensure safety on the final day of the Olympics.
The Tower played a central role in the opening ceremony, where Celine Dion performed from one of its viewing areas. However, it is not expected to be a part of the closing ceremony, which is scheduled to start at Stade de France in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis at 9pm.
