‘What am I doing?’: Biden appears confused at White House event honoring Texas Rangers; watch video

President Joe Biden displayed visible confusion at his sole public event of the week on Thursday, during a White House ceremony honoring the Texas Rangers for their World Series victory. The 81-year-old president appeared unsure of his role as he mingled with the team, prompting an emcee to remind him to exit the event.
After receiving a personalized jersey and cowboy boots from the Rangers in the East Room, Biden, who has faced mounting concerns about his mental fitness, was seen asking, “All right, what am I doing now?” His uncertainty grew as he looked around, raising his hands in a questioning gesture.A military aide then approached to collect the gifts, leading Biden to joke, “Are you stealing my jersey?”

The president’s confusion was momentarily resolved when an emcee announced, “Distinguished guests, please remain in your seats as the president departs.” Biden responded with a playful faux-jogging motion before giving a military-style salute to the team and greeting two young fans in the front row.
The incident adds to ongoing debates about Biden’s suitability for office. Leading Republicans and some Democrats have criticized his ability to lead, especially following his withdrawal from the presidential race and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
The president’s withdrawal from the presidential race followed criticism of his performance in a June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump, where Biden struggled with his responses. Since then, Harris has gained momentum in polling, currently leading Trump in national surveys.
Despite the criticism, Biden’s aides and physician, Dr Kevin O’Connor, have defended his mental fitness, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asserting that Biden remains capable of leading the country.
