President-elect Donald Trump has some plans to shake up the leadership at the FBI with two top posts and the two top possible names for those doing the rounds were Mike Rogers, a former FBI special agency and a former Michigan congressman; and Kash Patel, a controversial MAGA loyalist. But now Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino revealed that Mike Rogers was not in consideration.
“Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought.’ Not happening,” Scavino wrote on X. Donald Trump Jr wrote ‘winning’ as he shared Dan Scavino’s post.
“Also relax about every rumor you hear online guys. Don’t assume anything you read is true till the release goes out. That said if it looks like we are missing something glaring like this definitely point it out,” Don Jr posted.
Trump had plans that he would fire Christopher Wray if he was elected but he has not yet nominated anyone for the posts as he would need a new director who would be both a MAGA loyalist and Senate confirmed.
Experts have been divided over Mike Rogers and Kash Patel as former Trump FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe said no part of the FBI’s mission is safe with Kash Patel in any position of leadership in the FBI. He said Mike Rogers would be a good choice.
CNN reported that Trump interviewed multiple candidates for the FBI job at his Mar-a-Lago. The report said Trump had been weighing a push from right-wing allies to name Kash Patel to the top post at the bureau but there are some concerns over Patel. Patel had been lobbying for the FBI director position where he would try to investigate Trump’s political enemies, declassify sensitive information.
