An unidentified hacker has got access to a computer file containing damaging testimony against Matt Gaetz, the New York Times reported. Matt Gaetz will become the attorney general of Donald Trump’s administration if the Senate accepts him. But the former Florida Congressman has been facing huge resistance because of his alleged involvement in a sex scandal. The MAGA machinery, however, is behind him.
The NYT report said the hacker gained access to a computer file shared in a secure link among lawyers whose clients have given testimony related to Mat Gaetz.
The file of 24 exhibits also includes the sworn testimony by a woman who said she had sex with Gaetz in 2017 when she was 17.
“The information was downloaded by a person using the name Altam Beezley at 1:23 p.m. on Monday, according to the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly. A lawyer connected to the case sent an email to the address associated with Altam Beezley, only to be informed in an automated reply that the recipient does not exist,” the NYT report said.
The hacker, however, has not made it public.
What are the Gaetz documents hacked?
The documents include information that is under seal with the Justice Department, NYT reported. The DoJ investigated Gaetz but did not press charges. The House Committee on Ethics completed its inquiry into Gaetz but before the report was to be published, Gaetz resigned from the Congress. The Ethics panel’s members are scheduled to meet Wednesday to decide on a vote which will determine whether the report will be published or not.
How the documents were hacked
The NYT report said the hacked documents came from a different source, a civil suit being pursued by Florida businessman Christopher Dorworth. Dorworth is a friend of Gaetz and his lawsuit is against the women who brought the allegations against Gaetz. The women alleged that the party where they saw Gaetz having sex with an underage woman was hosted by Dorworth.
The hacker’s motive remains unknown as the hacker has not contacts anyone related to the case.
